♥ Round Rules · #16
You MUST match the hand type AND card count of the leader. e.g. Leader plays a Pair → you must play a higher Pair or pass. You cannot switch hand types mid-trick. Exception: Bombs beat all and play ANYTIME. Straight Flush also beats all, but only on your turn.
# How to Follow a Trick in Grand?
Following a trick in Grand requires careful consideration of the lead and the hand type played. The objective is to match the hand type and card count of the leader. Failure to do so can result in a loss of the trick. Here's how to follow a trick effectively.
When following, you must play a card that matches the hand type and rank of the lead. For example, if the leader plays a Pair (e.g., 3♠-3♥), you must play a higher Pair (e.g., 4♠-4♥) or pass. You cannot switch hand types mid-trick. There are exceptions, such as when a Bomb or a Straight Flush is played. Bombs beat all other plays and can be played at any time. A Straight Flush can only be played on your turn and beats all other plays.
1. Match the Leader's Hand Type: Always try to match the hand type of the leader to win the trick. If you cannot, consider passing to avoid losing the trick.
2. Play Bombs Wisely: Bombs are powerful, but they should be played strategically to maximize their impact.
3. Understand the Exceptions: Familiarize yourself with the exceptions to following the lead, such as when a Bomb or a Straight Flush is played.
1. Not Matching the Hand Type: Failing to match the hand type of the leader can result in losing the trick.
2. Ignoring the Exceptions: Not understanding the exceptions to following the lead can leave you vulnerable to losing tricks.
3. Playing Bombs Improperly: Playing a bomb at the wrong time can be ineffective and predictable.
1. Hand Types: Understanding the different hand types in Grand is crucial for following the lead effectively.
2. Bombs: A bomb is a hand that consists of four cards of the same rank and can be played at any time.
3. Straight Flush: A straight flush is a sequence of five cards of the same suit and can only be played on your turn.
